We are small in numbers but happy to get going.
The annual workshop of the Béla Bartók Centre of Musicianship, held on June 29, 2024, was a resounding success, perfectly complemented by the idyllic setting of Hampstead Heath. Under the expert guidance of Agnes Kory, the event brought together a diverse group of participants, ranging from toddlers to septuagenarians, all united by their love for music. The workshop was a testament to the inclusive and comprehensive approach of the BBCM, which emphasizes musicianship for all ages and skill levels.
The atmosphere was nothing short of magical, with perfect weather enhancing the experience. The lush grass and the shade of the trees provided a serene backdrop for the day's activities. Participants engaged in various musical exercises and performances, creating a harmonious blend of voices and instruments that resonated through the park. The natural beauty of Hampstead Heath added an extra layer of charm to the event, making it a memorable day for everyone involved.
Agnes Kory's leadership was instrumental in the workshop's success. Her passion for music and dedication to education were evident as she conducted the singing sessions with enthusiasm and precision. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the performance of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy." The rendition was both powerful and moving, showcasing the collective talent and hard work of the participants. The joy and unity expressed through the music were palpable, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
Overall, the annual workshop of the Béla Bartók Centre of Musicianship was a celebration of community, music, and nature. It provided a unique opportunity for participants of all ages to learn, perform, and connect in a beautiful outdoor setting. The event exemplified the BBCM's mission to foster a love of music and musicianship in a supportive and inspiring environment. As the final notes of "Ode to Joy" echoed through Hampstead Heath, it was clear that the workshop had achieved its goal of bringing people together through the universal language of music.
We missed out on our Hampstead Heath venue of previous years - this time another group got there first - but our new venue was peaceful and idyllic.
This year we had the smallest number of participants at an annual BBCM workshop. Nevertheless, the spirits were high and our programme provided good music for the very young as well as for the older generation of various ages.
On the way to our venue on the Heath, at the ponds we sang the Marching Song and Frog Song in four-part rounds.
BBCM mothers Amber and Hester assist their young daughters Eva and Skye.
Having reached our venue, the Mosquito Song, Candlelight game, Pease Pudding / RamSam and Ode to Joy were again tackled in harmony, including all participants from our youngest to all.
One of the chorales from Bach's St Matthew Passion had extra dimension under the beautiful blue sky and then, finally, some of us read/sang through five short but challenging Bartók's choral pieces: Ne Menj El, Játék, Leánynéző, Bolyongás and Resteknek.
Few of us are braving the five Bartok choral pieces.

Goodbye, see you next year...
