BBCM reviews of concert, opera and ballet

Though the concert was quite a while ago, and my mum and Agnes had to help me refresh my memory, what I do remember was very good. Conducted by Andre Previn, the concert included a full-blown male and female choir, plus a youth choir who performed remarkably well, two soprano singers and, of course, the London Symphony Orchestra. In particular of the orchestra I noticed the beautiful harp, an instrument which I always love to hear. As I said the youth choir was excellent, well matching the quality of the adults.

In fact, the whole concert was for Mr. Previn - in celebration of his 70th Birthday. Of the two halves, I personally preferred the second, the space for Benjamin Britten's Spring Symphony. In this piece the singers were brought in, as the symphony was to old English poems, which became the words of the melody. The first half consisted of Vaughan Williams' Symphony No. 5 in D major.

Overall it was an interesting and delightful concert and I'm sure most who went would agree with me.
