BBCM reviews of concert, opera and ballet

Julian Rachlin, a very talented 28 year old Lithuanian violinist put on a most spectacular performance at the very well known Barbican. There was not a note out of place. His bowing was perfect. His flexibility was shocking. It was immaculate.

His accompanist (piano) Itamar Golan, was also very much enjoyable. He had crisp staccatos, long and smooth slurs, and certainly created a great image to the music. They got on together exceptionally well. Although rather nervous, neither of them hesitated. They went on stage, took up their position and began. Hundreds of beady eyes were staring at them as they carried on with their pieces. This was a great experience for us all.

During this time, my brother Filip was sitting quietly and peacefully, glancing in Julian's direction. This was a typical musical atmosphere where no one even dared cough during the concert, that is, except my brother (he is only seven). I think we all made the most of it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Agnes has certainly done me a favour. I hope she has done one for you as well!
